Beethoven on postage stamps: Continuity and visual modernization (1971-2016)

The period between 1960 and 1969 represents a particularly important transitional phase in the history of Ludwig van Beethoven's presence on postage stamps. This period witnessed a gradual shift from the almost exclusively European character of the preceding foundational phase to a more geographically and culturally diverse presence, with the beginning of countries outside the traditional European framework issuing stamps bearing his image.
