Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait affirmed that the Egyptian government is keen to maximize the role of the treasury and currency issuance in supporting national objectives. He stated that this will be achieved by issuing new commemorative coins to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, as well as to celebrate the bicentenary of the discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun.

The Egyptian government has failed to recover a piece of Tutankhamun's artifact. In news reported hours ago, an artifact belonging to King Tutankhamun was sold at a Christie's auction for £4.7 million (US$6 million). The artifact is a quartzite head. After two months of negotiations by the Egyptian government to recover the piece, the sale was unsuccessful.
